What is an ICO file?

An .ico is the Windows icon format. Unlike a PNG or JPG, a single .ico can hold the same picture at several sizes — 16×16 for the taskbar, 32×32 and 48×48 for the desktop, 256×256 for large/high-DPI views. Windows automatically picks the right size for each place it shows your icon. That is why exporting a single-size PNG rarely looks right as an app icon: you actually want a multi-resolution ICO, which is exactly what this tool builds.

Frequently asked questions

What image formats can I convert to ICO?

PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, GIF and BMP. For sharp icons a square source (e.g. 256×256 or larger) works best.

Does it make a true multi-size icon?

Yes. Every size you tick is packed into a single .ico file, which is what Windows and browsers expect — not one flat image.

Are my images uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with the Canvas API; your image never leaves your device.

Is it free?

Completely — unlimited, no sign-up, no watermark.
